periodontal convencional.
The purpose of this research was to determine the anti-inflammatory effect of a gel based on Plantago major in patients with gingivitis, treated in the area of Dentistry of the Hospital de Especialidades Básicas La Noria de Trujillo in 2017. The study was prospective, longitudinal, descriptive and experimental. It had a sample of non-probabilistic collection for convenience of 62 patients older than 18 years distributed in two groups, an experimental group (Llantén) and a control group (Placebo). The data collection was performed after an inter-examiner type calibration by an expert using the Kappa concordance index. As part of the procedure, all the patients of both groups underwent the first phase of the periodontal treatment accompanied by the instruction of the brushing technique. They were instructed to apply the gel 3 times a day after brushing. Controls were carried out on the third, fifth and seventh day. To analyze the information, frequency tables were constructed with their absolute and relative values. The difference of the anti-inflammatory effect at the gingival level (GI) between the experimental group (Llantén) and the control group (Placebo) was determined by means of the statistical test of comparison of proportions. using the normal distribution with a level of significance of 5% (p <0.05). As results, we obtained a significance of p <0.001 between the experimental and control groups, concluding that the Plantago major presents a significant difference between both groups, which is a great help in addition to the conventional periodontal treatment.
