Identify key risk factors associated with low Apgar scores at Santa Rosa Hospital Piura, period January-December 2014. Material and Methods: We made an analytical, observational, retrospective case-control study was performed. The study population consisted of 164 infants according to inclusion and exclusion criteria established, divided into two groups: infants with low Apgar newborns and normal Apgar. Results: The statistical analysis of the study variables as risk factors for low Apgar score was, the lower gestational age 37 weeks with an OR = 2.4, CI (95%): (1.0, 5.7); the presence of amniotic fluid is also a risk factor with an OR = 8.6, CI (95%): (4.8, 15.27); antenatal detected with an OR = 8.9, CI (95%): (4.99, 15,721) and hypertensive disorders, with an OR = 8.6, CI (95%): (4.8, 15.27). Conclusions: Among the risk factors associated with low Apgar have gestational age, level of education, maternal age, birth weight, prolonged expulsive period, meconium amniotic fluid, type of delivery, prenatal and hypertensive disorders of pregnancy.
