Objective: To determine the prevalence and factors associated with the correct use of Emergency Contraception among university students of the Universidad Privada Antenor Orrego during the period between April and May 2017. Material and methods: We performed an observational, cross - sectional, cross - sectional study that evaluated 221 university students enrolled in the 2017-10 academic year, excluding students who did not have sex; 165 students were analyzed. Results: The prevalence of correct use of emergency contraception in the present study was 50.91%. The univariate analysis of the sociodemographic characteristics associated with the correct use of emergency contraception were sex, marital status, occupation, educational level of the mother, smoking and consuming alcoholic beverages (p < 0.05); The characteristics of sexual behavior associated with the correct use of emergency contraception were the age of first sexual intercourse, sexually active status, unprotected sex, contraceptive use at first intercourse and presence of pregnancy ( p < 0.05). The multivariate analysis of the sociodemographic and sexual behavior variables with p < 0.25 that were independently associated with the correct use of emergency contraception were age, sex, marital status, occupation, level of education of the mother, alcohol consumption, age 1 ° sexual intercourse, and pregnancy.
