The research was conducted in the district of Trujillo in 40 Canis familiaris with canine ehrlichiosis adults of different race and sex diagnosed by the Elisa test, treated with oral doxycycline at a dose of 10mg / kg / day for a period of 14 days which Were randomly divided into two groups of 20 patients in which one was coadministered with oral thioctic acid at a dose of 25mg / kg / day for 14 days in order to evaluate the hepatoprotective effect of thioctic acid by monitoring the enzymes Hepatic alanine amino transferase (ALT) and aspartate amino transferase (AST) at days 0.7 and 14. The transaminases of the patients treated with doxycycline and thioctic acid showed a decrease with a significant difference from day 7 until the end of treatment, however, the doxycycline group did not show statistical difference until the end of the treatment. The decrease in hepatic transaminases observed in the doxycycline / thioctic acid group demonstrates the hepatoprotective effect of thioctic acid in dogs with canine ehrlichiosis treated with doxycycline.
