We evaluated 20 Canis familiaris females of different ages, races and normal body conditions: with signs of heat, to which they took blood samples to measure serum progesterone; in order to determine the fertile period, for comparison with the values of the electrical resistance of vaginal mucus. All the patients at the time to be evaluated, initially in proestrus, the same as were serum progesterone dosage was made every 48 hours to determine the fertile period, differentiating periods of proestrus and estrus. The values of serum progesterone proestrus, estrus and fertile period were compared with the electrical resistance of vaginal mucus, where it was determined that serum progesterone and the electrical resistance of vaginal mucus throughout proestrus are positively correlated, showing increases, however for fertile estrus day and show no relationship where serum progesterone tends to increase and the electrical resistance of vaginal mucus showed a sharp decline. A serum progesterone 8.56 +/- 1.74 ng / dL and an electrical resistance of 573 ohms +/- 196 was determined as an average for the fertile day.
