Objective: To determine whether neutrophil lymphocyte index higher predictor of mortality in patients with decompensated heart failure in the Maria Auxiliadora Hospital. Material and Methods: An analytical study, observational, retrospective, case-control type is carried out. The study population consisted of 138 patients with decompensated heart failure; who they were divided into 2 groups: deceased and survivors. Results: The high frequency index neutrophil lymphocyte death in patients with decompensated heart failure and surviving was 35 % and 18% respectively. The high neutrophil lymphocyte ratio is a predictor of mortality in decompensated heart failure with an odds ratio of 2.35 which was significant. The average neutrophil lymphocyte ratio was significantly higher in death patients compared with survivors (p < 0.05). Conclusions: The index increased neutrophil lymphocyte predictor of mortality in patients with decompensated heart failure in the Maria Auxiliadora Hospital.
