Introduction: The incidence of overweight and obesity are increasing and of women who manage to become pregnant under these conditions, a part of them suffer various alterations that can trigger a miscarriage. Objective: To demonstrate that overweight and pregestational obesity are factors associated with spontaneous abortion in patients treated at Hospital Víctor Ramos Guardia. Materials and methods: An observational, analytical study of cases and controls was carried out by reviewing the medical records of 354 women who suffered spontaneous abortion (177 cases and controls) and who were treated at Hospital Víctor Ramos Guardia between 2011 and 2016. Results: The mean age was 24.68 years, of which 37.3% were overweight, which was associated with spontaneous abortion (OR: 2.98; 95% CI: 1.90-4.69); in addition, 15.8% were obese and were associated with a greater force on spontaneous abortion (OR: 7.86; 95% CI: 3.59-17.19). Conclusion: Pregestational overweight and obesity are factors associated with spontaneous abortion.
