This work is purpose to make a quantitative assessment about the relation between the loan expansion of microfinance and regional economic growth. Taking as framework the theory developed by several authors about the link between the loan expansion of microfinance and economic growth with monthly data for La Libertad region in the period 2001-2015, we estimate a time series model whit 180 observations whose dependent variable is the monthly index of regional economic activity variation and as explanatory variable all of the loan of microfinance institutions variation in La Libertad region. Once made the empirical analysis using delays, we obtain a non-expected result because the loan expansion of microfinance is inverse related to regional economic growth, nevertheless we found a direct related between the regional economic growth and the loan expansion of microfinance with a delay. So the empirical result indicates us that for every 1% increase in the loan expansion of microfinance in t period, regional economic growth in t period decrease in 0.256%, however regional economic growth in t+1 period increases in 0.258%. These results are partial consistent with the works of Burneo (2008) y Aguilar (2011), in which confirm a positive and significant relationship between economic growth and growth of microfinance, these studies had as sample the 24 regions of Peru.
