The present research aims to determine the type of motivation that predominates in the teachers of the Faculty of Economics of the Private University Antenor Orrego de Trujillo. The problem posed is: what type of motivation predominates in the work performance of teachers of the faculty of economic sciences?, Being the hypothesis: intrinsic or extrinsic motivation predominates in the work performance of teachers and the faculty of economic sciences . A descriptive and explanatory design has been used. The instruments used to measure the variables were: for the variable extrinsic motivation was used sub-dimensions: external regulation, introjected regulation, identified regulation, integrated regulation, intrinsic regulation and demotivation of Deci and Ryan (1990). In order to measure work performance, sub-dimensions were used: discipline domain, course planning, learning environments, strategies, methods and techniques, motivation, evaluation, communication, course management, information and communication technology, satisfaction General of the secretariat of public education of Mexico. The sample is 119 teachers of the 142 in total of the faculty of economic sciences in the period 2016-I that represents 84% of the teachers. The sample is 347 students of the 3,566 registered active, students of the races of the school of economic sciences. The conclusion that we can reach is that the motivation that predominates most in the teachers of the faculty of economic sciences is the intrinsic motivation.
