In order to determine the risk factors for metabolic acidosis in term and low apgar newborns from Hospital Belen de Trujillo, we made a case and control trial in 68 new born; 30 of them were cases and the rest, controls. All of them were treated during 2011 and 2012. 46,7% of the cases and 57,9% of the controls were male; 36,7 % of the cases and 44,7% of the controls were delivered vaginally; 40 % of the cases and 10,5% of the controls had history of intrauterine vascular disorders. 6,7 % of the cases and 5,3 % of the controls had history of maternal chorioamnionitis. 60 % of the cases and 84,2 % of the controls had history of acute intrapartum events. We found that new born with of intrauterine vascular disorders had 5,67 times more probability to have metabolic acidosis. There was not significant association between metabolic acidosis and acute intrapartum events and chorioamnionitis.
