To determine whether obesity is a risk factor for the development of prolonged pregnancy in pregnant women at the Maternity Hospital Support Chepen. Material and Methods: A retrospective, analytical study of cases and controls, where a total of 144 medical records of patients whose birth was treated at the Maternity Hospital Support Chepen during the period January to December 2014 was revised was performed, forming the group of 48 patients diagnosed cases of prolonged pregnancy and 96 control patients with term pregnancy group, according to reliable FUR and / or transvaginal ultrasonography in the first quarter. Data were analyzed in simple contingency tables and chi square and percentage was applied, with a significance level of p < 0.005. Results: 7.8 % frequency of term pregnancies was obtained. Of the 48 cases were obese 70.8 % and 194 controls the 21.7 % were obese, found an OR of 4.5 and p = 0.001. The mean maternal prepregnancy BMI in EPT was 30, 8 kg/m2. In the case of term pregnancy BMI was 26, 1 kg/m2. Conclusions: Obesity is a risk factor for prolonged pregnancy .The average of body mass index is significatively major in the group of pregnant women with prolonged pregnancy in which it had not.
