Objective: To determine if laser refractive surgery is a factor associated with dry eye in patients treated at Ophthalmocenter during the period January - December 2016. Material and Methods: An analytical, observational, retrospective cohort study was carried out at the Oftalmocenter clinic in Trujillo. The study population consisted of 64 adult patients with refractive defects; which were divided into 2 groups of 32 patients each cohort: undergoing refractive laser surgery the first cohort, and treated with eyeglasses the second cohort; The odds ratio and the chi square test were calculated to establish a relationship between the qualitative variables specified in the study. Results: There were no significant differences in relation to the variables age, gender or time of disease among patients exposed or not exposed to laser refractive surgery. The dry eye frequency in patients exposed to laser refractive surgery was 34%. The dry eye frequency in patients not exposed to laser refractive surgery was 13%. Laser refractive surgery is a factor associated with dry eye with a relative risk of 2.75 which was significant (p <0.05). Conclusions: Laser refractive surgery is a factor associated with dry eye in patients treated at Ophthalmocenter during the period January - December 2016.
