Objective: To determine whether the highly active antiretroviral therapy is related to the development of dyslipidemia in children treated at the Hospital Victor Lazarte Echegaray. Material and Methods: It is a study analytic, observational, retrospective, case-control. The study population consisted of 81 patients infected with Human Immunodeficiency Virus; they were divided into 2 groups: with and without a diagnosis of dyslipidemia. Results: We found no significant differences in relation to age, gender and treatment time between study groups. The development of dyslipidemia in patients receiving highly active antiretroviral therapy was 48.1%. Antiretroviral treatment affects an odds ratio of 35.04 for the development of dyslipidemia it was significant (p <0.05). Conclusions: Antiretroviral treatment is related to the development of dyslipidemia in patients infected with human immunodeficiency virus in the Hospital Victor Lazarte Echegaray.
