Objective: To establish whether generalized anxiety disorder is a factor associated with obesity in adult patients at Hospital Belén de Trujillo. Material and Methods: An analytical, observational, retrospective, case-control study was conducted. The study population consisted of 168 adult patients aged 18-60 years; Which were divided into 2 groups: obese or non-obese; The odds ratio and chi-square test were calculated. Results: There were no significant differences in relation to the variables age and gender among patients with or without obesity (p <0.05). The frequency of generalized anxiety in patients with obesity was 26%. The frequency of generalized anxiety in nonobese patients was 10%. Generalized anxiety is a risk factor associated with obesity with an odds ratio of 3.37 which was significant (p <0.05). Patients with generalized anxiety had a significantly higher mean body mass index than patients without generalized anxiety (p <0.05). Conclusions: Generalized anxiety disorder is a factor associated with obesity in adult patients of Trujillo Belen Hospital.
