This bibliographical study was carried out in the province of Trujillo, department La Libertad, with the aim of determining involving factors in maize (Zea mays) fertility of the maize, to recommend improvements and efficient practices. Maize farmer of Peruvian coast faces often two problems: low yields in his crops and low prices in the market. The main conditions about the management of the maize cultivation are related to: use of improved seeds, water management, density, sanity, and, above all, fertilization management, due to maize is a nutrient demanding plant, that requires high doses of nitrogen, phosphorus, and potassium, to give good results. For maize fertilization, it must consider, as starting point: soil analysis, fertilizer prices, market, and amount of expected crop. These factors are very important, because they affect significantly on fertilizer doses. Due to the lack of information about maize production, it is said that the national production does not satisfy the internal demanding, and, therefore, it is resorted the importation, in part; and also due to shortage of water resources, lack of credits, almost inexistent technical help, and lack of adequate technology. In addition, fertilization system of maize has always been a topic of study, according to the ecological conditions, in which, it is developed. Hence, it is imperative to promote and improve its technology to achieve the highest levels of production and quality, by the rational use of recommended agriculture resources, and suitable for socioeconomic reality of farmers.
