OBJECTIVE: To determine the risk factors for surgical site infection in elective laparotomized colon cancer in the EsSalud Oncology Unit, Trujillo 2010-2016. MATERIAL AND METHOD: An analytical case-control study was conducted, evaluating 240 patients operated by elective laparotomy at the EsSalud Trujillo Oncological Unit 2010-2016. RESULTS: Of the Laparotomized patients, 27.9% were obese; Of these 39.3% had surgical site infection. Anastomosis was performed in 84.2% (202) of the laparotomized patients; Presenting 85.7% surgical site infection; When assessing colostomy exposure we will say that 15.8% (38) were exposed; 14.3% had surgical site infection, in dm2 22.5% (54) were exposed; And 23.2% presented ISS, over 60 years was 57.5% (138) and 69.6% had surgical site infection. CONCLUSIONS: We found the existence of risk of surgical site infection in elective laparotomized colon cancer such as obesity and age over 60 years, which are corroborated with the chi-square test statistic p <0.05, which did not happen With anastomosis, colostomy and DM2.
