The objective of this study was to determine the relationship between clinical sings of temporomandibular disorder and tomographic manifestations of the temporomandibular joint in adult patients. The sample included 30 adult patients between 21 and 67 years old, which underwent a clinical and tomographic examination. The results showed that 30 patients (16 males, 14 females) the most common clinical sing found was deviation on mouth opening, 63.3% presented this sing and limitation in mandibular range of motion. The tomographic analysis showed that there was an alteration on the condyle surface on more than 50% of the sample. Also, it was proved a higher relationship between clinical sings of temporomandibular disorder and tomographic manifestations of the temporomandibular joint in female patients. Out of 30 patients 20 showed bruxism, 10 had FDD grade 2 and 10 grade 3, patients who presented FDD grade 2 had a higher relationship between clinical sings of temporomandibular disorder and tomographic manifestations of the temporomandibular joint than the ones who presented FDD grade 3. This research concludes that there is poor relationship between clinical sings of temporomandibular disorder and tomographic manifestations of the temporomandibular joint in adult patients.
