The purpose of this study was evaluate the visual perception of skeletal class and facial biotype on orthodontists and graduate students in orthodontics. This study, prospective, cross-sectional, descriptive and observational, was developed in the environment of the radiology center Imágenes Rx from Trujillo, from which we selected a total of 148 photographs (front and lateral) and respective cephalometric radiographs of patients who were treated in 2014. Ricketts analysis was used to determine the facial biotype and for the skeletal class, Steiner analysis. To compare the frequency of the perceived values and the radiologically identified values, we used the the test statistic Z. Was considered a significance level of 5%. The results show that orthodontists presented more significant difference to diagnose dolichofacial patients (35.14%) and skeletal class type III (7.43%); while the students had a better performed than the orthodontists just in facial biotype, they had troubles to identified Class I patients (24.32%). According to the results, we conclude that orthodontists and students who has less experience and studies, respectively, the best identified patients correctly. The facial biotype that scored less margin error in diagnosis was the brachyfacial pattern; and in sketal class, Class III patients.
