To determine whether PaCO2, the blood lactate level, Mannheim peritonitis index, ascites, gastrointestinal dysfunction, mechanical ventilation, shock and multiple organ dysfunction syndrome are risk factors associated with the development of intra-abdominal hypertension (IAH) patients with abdominal sepsis in Trujillo Regional Teaching Hospital. MATERIAL AND METHODS: We conducted an observational, analytical, case-control study nested in a cohort study, which evaluated 179 patients > 17 years, with abdominal sepsis in the period between January 2010 to July 2014 study. RESULTS: The mean age in the group was 54,57 ± 13,45 HIA and the HIA group without was 8,63 years ± 32,93; the 57,14% and 74,14% in the groups with and without IAH were male. The mean intra-abdominal pressure in patients with and without IAH were 21,79 ± 4,04 and 7,90 ± 2,63 mmHg. Univariate analysis identified the following risk factors: age ≥ 55 years (OR = 3,24), PaCO2 > 45 mmHg (OR = 5,40), the lactate level > 2 mmol / L (OR = 8, 30), the IPM > 25 (OR = 18,93), the presence of gastrointestinal dysfunction (OR = 4,70) and MODS (OR = 21,69); males was found to be a protective factor (OR = 0,47). CONCLUSIONS: The development of IAH in patients with abdominal sepsis had risk factors of age, PaCO2, lactate, IPM, gastrointestinal dysfunction and MODS s.
