Determine if facoemulsification is more effective than manual extracapsular extraction in treatment of visual accuracy in patients with cataratas attending at Oftalmologia Regional Institute. Methods: We made an analytic, observational, retrospective, cohorts. The population were integrated by 300 patients with cataratas divided into two groups: facoemulsification and manual extracapsular extraction Results: The frequency of adecuate visual accuracy between facoemulsification or extracapsular extraction were 61% y 37% respectively (p<0.05). Averages of (p<0.05). Averages of variation to preoperatory and postoperatory visual accuracy in patients treated with facoemulsification and manual extracapsular extraction Were 6.1 y 4.7 (p<0.05). Conclusions: Facoemulsification is associated with major frecuency of adecuate postoperatory visual accuracy comparated to manual extracapsular. Facoemulsification is more effective than manual extracapsular extraction in treatment of visual accuracy in patients with cataratas.
