In order to explore the practices related to the use of medicinal plants in labor and postpartum. Miramar Health post-Region La Libertad. April 2015 A phenomenological qualitative study design was conducted; the selection of cases was the snowball strategy in 13 multiparous women 22-37 years old. A guide for depth interviews and focus group with five open-ended questions designed that allowed collecting information relating to the use of medicinal plants in the labor and postpartum practices which were answered in the form of story or dialogue was drawn up theoretical saturation; found that women often use medicinal plants during childbirth and postpartum, the most used are the basil, garlic, maidenhair, fennel , rue used in infusion orally to accelerate labor and chamomile infusion to douche during the postpartum period anti- inflammatory; use practices of medicinal plants are generationally transmit through the familiar oral tradition; They prefer to use the infusion as the most practical and effective method. Most patients reported that the use of these medicinal plants will not cause any adverse reaction. The cultural practices of the people around childbirth and postpartum should serve as a cornerstone for the care of maternal health.
