Determine if trabeculectomy is effective in the surgical management of patients diagnosed with primary open-angle glaucoma treated at the Regional Institute of Ophthalmology. - Material and Method: Study longitudinal and retrospective. Design time series with one group with pre observations, postoperatively, three months, six months, nine and twelve months, to determine changes in IOP. - Results: Mean intraocular pressure remains within the normal range of 19 mm Hg. There is significant difference between the mean preoperative IOP and postoperative. The pressure variations at 3, 6, 9 and 12 months were significantly decreased compared with postoperative IOP. The most common post-operative complications were corneal edema, macular edema, choroidal hemorrhage, hyphema, choroidal hemorrhage Uveitis being the most common. The average number of drugs used to control postoperative IOP is three drugs. - Conclusions Trabeculectomy is effective in the surgical management of patients diagnosed with primary open-angle glaucoma. The mean IOP pre-operative and post-operative patients diagnosed with primary open-angle glaucoma who underwent surgery with trabeculectomy have estadisticamnente significant difference, a good percentage of IOP reduction was observed at 3, 6, 9 and 12 months postoperatively, choroidal hemorrhage is the most frequent postoperative immediate diagnosis in patients with primary open-angle glaucoma, the average number of drugs used to control postoperative IOP was three drugs complication. - Keywords Trabeculectomy, intraocular pressure, open angle primary glaucoma
