To determine whether pregnant women with abnormal amniotic fluid (Oligohydramnios - Polyhydramnios) present with increased maternal morbidity pregnant women with normal amniotic fluid in the Bethlehem Hospital of Trujillo. MATERIAL AND METHODS: We conducted an observational, analytical, retrospective cohort study, which evaluated 240 pregnant women, divided into three groups: group I (80 normal pregnant ILA), group II (80 pregnancies with oligohydramnios) and group III (80 pregnancies with polyhydramnios), all treated at the Bethlehem Hospital of Trujillo during the period January 2011 to December 2014. RESULTS:The mean age of the patients in group I was 31.09 ± 7.33 years, the group II patients was 25.86 ± 6.53 years and group III patients was 29.15 ± 6.84 years (p > 0.05); gestational age at delivery in group I was 38.55 ± 1.57 years in group II was 38.31 ± 2,35años and group III was 37.10 ± 3.29 years (p < 0.001). Regarding the amniotic fluid index, the average of the patients in group I was 9.79 ± 3.73 cm in group II was 3.31 ± 1.14 cm and group III was 28, 08 ± 3.44 cm (p < 0.01). In regard to maternal morbidity and study groups, we observed that gestational diabetes was present at 1.25%, 1.25% and 5% in Groups I, II and III respectively (p > 0.05 ); pre-eclampsia at 6.25%, 8.75% and 25% (p < 0.01); premature rupture of membranes at 7.5%, 20% and 7.50% (p < 0.05) and cesarean delivery in 28.75%, 68.75% and 76.25% respectively (p < 0.001 ). CONCLUSIONS: Pregnant women with abnormal amniotic fluid associated with the highest maternal morbidity pregnant women with normal amniotic fluid, polyhydramnios alteration being more morbidity presented.
