In order to determine the level of knowledge of health professionals about the technical standard of vertical transmission of HIV in hospitals of level III-1 in the province of Trujillo in 2014; an investigation was conducted descriptive - cross, in a sample of 71 health professionals (doctors, obstetricians, nurses), selected by simple random sampling, according to the criteria of inclusion and exclusion. The average age of health professionals is 36.5 years (SD ± 9.5 years), the average time worked in the department. of obstetrics and gynecology is 7.1 years (SD ± 3.1 years). The level of knowledge of health professionals about the technical standard of vertical transmission of HIV is good in 29.5%, regular in 49.2% and bad in 21.1% (Anova T = 27.15 p = <0.000) in health professionals Hospitals level III-1 in the province of Trujillo. On the other side is greater ignorance as to the information related to the stage for prophylaxis of vertical transmission of HIV (59.1%), and better knowledge related to the prophylactic treatment of Newborn (76%). Doctors recorded a good level of knowledge in 81.8% and obstetricians and nurses regularly presents a level of knowledge with 52% and 75.5% respectively. Knowledge of this technical standard is a good management of this disease and prevent transmission to the fetus and /or newborn.
