Objective: To evaluate the impact on sexuality in women mastectomized by breast cancer, attended in the Hospital III EsSalud José Cayetano Heredia - Piura, during the year 2018. Methods: An observational, cross-sectional, prospective and analytical study was conducted. Female patients undergoing mastectomy for breast cancer were studied and attended by an outpatient clinic for clinical and surgical oncology. Participants were identified from the breast cancer and mastectomy care registries. They were randomly selected and then interviewed using a data collection questionnaire and the Female Sexual Function Index. Univariate and bivariate statistical analysis was performed in STATA v.14. Results: The prevalence of sexual dysfunction was 64%, with sexual desire being the main domain affected (57.3%). The characteristics associated with sexual dysfunction were: age, marital status, number of children, sexual orientation, frequency of sexual intercourse before mastectomy, time of restart after mastectomy, decreased interest in sex, decreased sexual pleasure, physical distress about chest pressure during sexual intercourse, painful sexual intercourse, uncomfortable sensation when touching around the surgical scar, type of mastectomy and postoperative radiation therapy Conclusions: It is necessary to carry out a study to improve the medical management of these patients, due to the high rate of sexual dysfunction in mastectomized women as reported in our findings.
