Many aspects of the physiological regulation of iron in humans have been clarified in the last decade, but there is still a controversial hypothesis that obesity is a condition that is associated with iron deficiency anemia; Iron deficiency anemia could represent one of the comorbidities associated with the chronic inflammation state of patients. Objective: To determine if overweight and obesity are risk factors for iron deficiency anemia in children treated at the Albrecht Hospital in Trujillo. Material and methods: An analytical, retrospective case-control study was carried out in which 210 pediatric patients were included: with iron deficiency anemia or without iron deficiency anemia, the chi square was calculated and the statistician odds ratio. Results: The frequency of housing without basic services was significantly higher in the group of patients with iron deficiency anemia compared to the group without iron deficiency anemia (p<0.05). Being overweight is a risk factor for iron deficiency anemia in children with an odds ratio of 2.71 which was significant (p<0.05). Conclusion: Overweight and obesity are risk factors for iron deficiency anemia in children treated at the Albrecht Hospital in Trujillo
