To compare the effectiveness of the VAC-Modified and the Bogotá Stock Exchange according to the rate of complications after damage control surgery. Material and methods: A retrospective cohort study was carried out in which 100 patients with abdominal trauma affected by damage control surgery were included, according to selection criteria, which were divided into 2 groups: patients affected by Modified VAC or the Stock Exchange. Bogotá applying the relative risk, and the chi-square statistical test Results: The enterocutaneous fistula frequency was 2% in the group exposed to the modified VAC and 4% to the Bogotá Stock Exchange technique; the frequency of operative site infection was 8% in the group exposed to the modified VAC and 22% to the Bogotá Stock Exchange technique; the frequency of residual abscess was 6% in the group exposed to the modified VAC and 18% to the Bogotá Stock Exchange technique; the frequency of abdominal hernia was 2% in the group exposed to the modified VAC and 4% to the Bogotá Stock Exchange technique. No significant differences were observed regarding the averages of age, length of hospital stay, hemoglobin, or between the frequencies of gender, admission to intensive care unit, diabetes mellitus and hypertension among patients exposed to the modified VAC technique or the Bogotá Stock Exchange (p> 0.05). Conclusion: The VAC-Modified technique is more effective than the Bogotá Stock Exchange technique to reduce the rate of post-surery damage control complications in patients with abdominal trauma
