To verify the effectiveness of extensive peritoneal lavage in peritoneal recurrence in operable malignant gastric neoplasia managed in the Oncological Surgery service of EsSalud Hospital ““Virgen de la Puerta““ Material and methods: An ambispective cohort study was carried out in which 63 patients with operable malignant gastric neoplasia were included, according to selection criteria which were divided according to the presence or not of extensive peritoneal lavage, the cumulative survival and peritoneal recurrence. Results: The mean hemoglobin was significantly lower and the mean number of resected nodes was significantly higher in the group of patients with operable gastric malignancy exposed to extensive peritoneal lavage (p<0.05); peritoneal recurrence among patients with operable gastric malignancy exposed or not exposed to extensive peritoneal lavage was 0% and 10%, without significant differences (p>0.05); Cumulative survival among patients with operable gastric malignancy exposed or not exposed to extensive peritoneal lavage was 71.4% and 63%, respectively, with no significant differences (p>0.05). Conclusions: There are no differences in the frequency of peritoneal recurrence or in cumulative survival between patients with operable gastric malignancy exposed or not exposed to extensive peritoneal lavage.
