This research aims to determine the premature tooth loss of first and second molar and its relationship with the need to use space maintainers in 6 to 9 years old schoolchildren in the district of Salaverry. MATERIALS AND METHODS: The prospective, transversal, descriptive andobservational study, consisting of 71 school children from 6 to 9 years; which they were selected through a no probabilistic method, for convenience. It was decided to select the students with temporary or mixed dentition and explained to the parents the importance of the present investigation so that they take the decision to participate in the survey. There are two moments in this survey; the first when performing an examination taking into account the first and second deciduous molars. The second part of the survey consists of evaluating the need to use and type of space maintainer. For statistical analysis were processed in a Microsoft Excel spreadsheet and the statistical program Statisc Version 8; to then put the results in tables and / or graphs showing the results according to the objectives set RESULTS: The results show that there is a significant percentage with respect to the loss of the dental and the need to use the maintenance of a space in the school from 6 to 9 year. CONCLUSION: The schoolchildren of male sex and of age range of 8 to 9 years are those that present greater dental loss in first and second molar; the transpalatal arch being the maintainer of greatest need.
