To determine the relationship between body mass index level and gingivitis in students aged 12 to 15 years. Material and Method: The study was cross-sectional, descriptive, prolective and observational. The sample consisted of 111 students between 12 and 15 years of age from I.E. 80029 Mariano Melgar - 2023, who were selected using the simple random method. The data of the participants were recorded, including sex, age, height and weight to obtain the body mass index and to evaluate the gingival condition of the students, the Löe and Silness Gingival Index was clinically applied prior to an interexaminer and intraexaminer calibration. The chi-square test was used to analyze the data. Results: There was a relationship between the level of body mass index and gingivitis in students aged 12 to 15 years (p=.0,000) and there was also a relationship between the level of body mass index and gingivitis in males and females (p=.0,000) and there was also a relationship between the level of body mass index and gingivitis in the 4 ages evaluated (p= 0,003, p= 0,000, p= 0,002 and p= 0,004 respectively). Conclusion: There is a relationship between the level of body mass index and gingivitis in students aged 12 to 15 years.
