To determine the factors associated with the inappropriate use of emergency oral contraception in university students of Piura, 2021-2022. Methods: An investigation was carried out with an observational, analytical, retrospective, and cross-sectional design. University students from 4 universities in Piura city were evaluated. Satisfaction with life, communication with parents and sexual behaviors of the students were assessed, in addition to the use of emergency oral contraceptives. A survey was used for data collection and the statistical analysis was carried out using the EPIDAT 4.3 program. Results: 384 university students, older than 18 years, were recruited. 55.21% misused emergency oral contraceptives. Communication with parents and life satisfaction are not associated with incorrect use of emergency oral contraceptives. Association between risky sexual behavior and misuse of postcoital oral contraception was demonstrated (p=0.000). Conclusions: High-risk sexual behavior behaves as an associated factor for the inappropriate use of AOE.
