The aim of this study is to determine the factors associated with the length of the hospital stay after a laparoscopic appendectomy in the Hospital de Alta Complejidad “Virgen de la Puerta”. Method: An analytical, observational, retrospective, case-control study was done. The study sample was constituted by 78 patients undergoing laparoscopic appendectomy, according to inclusion and exclusion criteria. The patients were divided into two groups: long hospitalization (>3 days) and short hospitalization (≤3 days). For the bivariate analysis, the student's t-test and chi-square were used. Multiple logistic regression was used for multivariate analysis. Results: There are no significant differences regarding leukocytosis and length of hospitalization (p=0.096). In the multivariate analysis, a significant association was found between hospital stay after laparoscopic appendectomy and the following variables: the age with an odds ratio of 1.051 (p = 0.027); the surgical time with an odds ratio 1.028 (p = 0.013); the surgical diagnosis of complicated appendicitis with an odds ratio of 15.008 (p = 0.018); and the female sex with an odds ratio of 6.079 (p = 0.010). Conclusions: The variables associated with the length of hospital stay after laparoscopic appendectomy are age, surgical time, surgical diagnosis of complicated appendicitis and female sex, because these variables were significant in prolonged hospitalization (> 3 días).
