To assess the association of psychopathological profile and chronic illness in outpatients. Background: Chronic diseases have increased in frequency in recent years, their importance lies in the increased mortality and decreased quality of life of the patient, to this is added the potential risk of mental illness due to the inability to cope with the changes. Previous studies show depression and anxiety as part of these illnesses, but do not demonstrate a complete psychopathological profile. Methods: Cross-sectional analytical study, using the SCL-90 R symptom inventory, excluding patients with an episode of acute stress, previous psychiatric or neurological pathology and those with a health emergency. The presence of at least one psychopathological symptom was classified as a positive outcome. Multivariate analysis was performed using logistic regression with determination of PR, 95% confidence level and p-value less than 0.05. Results: Out of 80 respondents, 42 had positive symptomatology. A higher frequency of phobias was found, followed by somatization as a psychopathological symptomatology. The presence of chronic disease was associated with a positive outcome (PR 4.70; 95% CI: 0.65-33.94), where arterial hypertension (PR 1.22; 95% CI: 0.69-2.18), chronic kidney disease (PR 1.49; 95% CI (0.77-2.89), glaucoma (PR 1.63; 95% CI: 0.83-3.18) and hypothyroidism (PR 1.09; 95% CI: 0.71-1.78) stood out. Conclusions: Some chronic diseases have a higher frequency of risk of psychopathological symptoms.
