To establish if exclusive breastfeeding is a protective factor for asthma in children treated at the ““Hospital Belén de Trujillo““ Materials and Methods: An observational, analytical, retrospective, case-control study was carried out. 236 medical records of children who were treated in the outpatient clinic and hospitalization of the Department of Pediatrics of the Belén de Trujillo Hospital during 2015-2020 and who met the eligibility criteria were reviewed. Results: The frequency of exclusive breastfeeding in asthmatic children was 39%, while in children who did not present asthma it was 84.7%. It was found that exclusive breastfeeding is a protective factor for asthma in children aged 4-14 years (OR (IC 95%): 0.12 (0.06-0.22)), being statistically significant (p<0. 05). The intervening variables such as sex, type of delivery and history of atopy in parents were associated with asthma in children since they have a value of p< 0.05. Conclusions: Exclusive breastfeeding is a protective factor for asthma in children from 4 to 14 years of age treated at ““Hospital Belén de Trujillo
