estadística chi cuadrado y odds ratio respectivamente.
ambulatorios.
Objective: To determine if the use of statins is a protective factor for osteoporosis in adult outpatients. Material and methods: Retrospective case-control study that included 300 patients over 40 years of age, fulfilling the selection criteria, divided into 2 groups: patients with and without osteoporosis; to whom the chi-square statistical test and odds ratio were applied respectively. Results: The mean age and the frequencies of gender, diabetes mellitus and obesity were significantly higher in the sample of patients with osteoporosis than in the sample without osteoporosis (p <0.05). The proportion of statin use in outpatient adult patients with osteoporosis was: 11%. The proportion of statin use in adult outpatient patients without osteoporosis was: 21%. The use of statins is a risk factor for osteoporosis with an odds ratio of 0.46 showing significance (p <0.05). In the multivariate study, the variables use of statins, diabetes mellitus, obesity, and female sex are known as determining factors for suffering from osteoporosis. Conclusion: The use of statins is a protective factor for osteoporosis in adult outpatients.
