The construction techniques with earth are gaining prominence in contemporary architecture worldwide due to its virtues such as the great thermal capacity and acoustic insulation added to the minimum environmental impact generated in its manufacture, which is why the structural qualities are being investigated and deficiencies that these constructions present before the seismic movements with the purpose of finding the constructive process and adequate design that safeguards the life of its inhabitants. This research presents the use of natural rubber extracted from the fruit of the Cordia lutea Lam plant in the preparation of soil with a specific moisture content in the technique of construction of Tapial or rammed earth, to improve the physical and mechanical properties of rammed earth walls. Initially, we studied and analyzed the physical and mechanical properties of the earth as a construction material for which in the laboratory we developed cylindrical specimens of compacted earth with a standardized energy, so that we found an optimum moisture content that allows us to achieve the maximum density of the material. Knowing this, we proceeded to prepare premiums and walls with this optimum moisture content found by varying within the water the different percentages of natural rubber of Cordia lutea Lam with which we proceeded to assess its influence on the results of the mechanical laboratory tests indicated E.080: 2017 standard. Similarly, to assess its influence on physical characteristics, accelerated suction and erosion tests were performed. The results show that the addition of the natural rubber of Cordia lutea Lam contributes to the improvement of the physical - mechanical properties of the tapial, at the same time that the compaction with a standardized energy (2700 𝐾𝑁 − 𝑚/𝑚3) manages to overcome greatly the limits of resistance that the E.080: 2017 standard indicates, so it remains to be studied to find a way to reach said compaction energy in the field.
