Objective: To determine whether anxiety and depression are related to quality of life in hemodialysis patients at the Jorge Reátegui Delgado Hospital. Methodology: descriptive, correlational, analytical, prospective cross-sectional study of the primary information source. Instruments: SF-36 quality of life questionnaire, Beck scales for depression-anxiety. Sample: 51 patients. Results: Severe anxiety (p <0.001) as well as severe depression (p <0.003) are associated with a poor quality of life. All hemodialysis patients had some level of anxiety, severe anxiety was the most frequent (37.25%). Severe anxiety increases by 2 times the prevalence ratio of having a poor quality of life. In the case of the study of depression, 11.76% had mild depression, 43.14% had moderate depression and only 3.92% had severe depression. For the study of quality of life eight dimensions have been taken into account, the dimension that most prevails in a negative way is the general perception of health, it was found that 68.63% of the studied patients presented poor quality of life, with a score SF-36 average of 39.59 points. Conclusion: Severe anxiety, as well as severe depression are associated with a poor quality of life, severe anxiety increases by 2 times the prevalence ratio of having a poor quality of life.
