Objective. To determine if the complications of the newborn are more severe in children of a mother with Gestational Diabetes than in children of a mother without Gestational Diabetes in Hospital III-2 José Cayetano Heredia. Material and methods. Observational, Transversal, Analytical, Retrospective. Cohort Design 1: 4 ratio. In total 37 cases and 148 controls. Results. It was found that women with gestational diabetes have an association with a RR of 20.64 95% CI: (8.48-50.22) for extreme premature deliveries and RR of 11.47 95% CI: (4.50-29.25) for late premature deliveries; with Polyhydramnios a RR of 2.56 95% CI: (1.31-5.00); macrosomia with a RR of 4.29 and 95% CI: (2.60-7.08); respiratory distress with RR of 7.35 95% CI: (3.71-14.57; hypoglycemia with RR of 13.33 95% CI: (7.73-23.01). The severity in newborn infants of a mother with gestational diabetes was greater with hospital stay and mortality (75.67% 21.62%). Conclusions. The severity in newborns children of a mother with gestational diabetes who presented prematurity, respiratory distress, neonatal sepsis, is greater than in the control groups.
