Abstract: INTRODUCCIÓN:
mujeres, con P=0.03 para el sexo. La edad promedio fue de 58.91 años, con P=0.02;
1.82-2.3, P=0.03)
INTRODUCTION: The COVID-19 pandemic has put global healthcare systems on high alert. Patients with comorbidities or incomplete vaccination may require assisted ventilation, including endotracheal intubation. This procedure can lead to complications, especially in patients with obstructed airways, such as scarring in the respiratory tract. It is essential to conduct studies to prevent complications and posttraumatic stress in COVID-19 intubated patients. OBJECTIVE: To determine factors associated with post-endotracheal intubation stress and complications in COVID-19 patients in Piura 2021. MATERIALS AND METHODS: An observational and analytical study was conducted on patients who had been intubated due to COVID-19 in Piura during the year 2021. To collect the data, the virtual platform Google Forms was collaboratively utilized. A significant association was established with a level of p<0.05. RESULTS: In the study, 64.38% of patients were male and 35.63% were female, with P=0.03 for sex. The average age was 58.91 years, with P=0.02; 50.00% were between 61 and 70 years old. Regarding comorbidities, 33.75% had hypertension and 23.13% had type 2 diabetes mellitus, with P=0.03. The average length of hospital stay was 16.23 days. 55.63% had dysphagia and 43.13% had tracheal injury, with P=0.04. In the Mallampati classification, 55.63% were type 1 and 30.63% were type 2, with P=0.04. The average stress score was 21.36 with P=0.03. Males had an adjusted prevalence ratio (Rpa) of 2.11 (95% CI: 1.9-2.44, P=0.03) and age over 43 years had an Rpa of 3.42 (CI: 2.13-3.67, P=0.02) for stress. Presence of more than two comorbidities had an Rpa of 1.98 (CI: 1.45-2.54, P=0.04), Mallampati score greater than 2 had an Rpa of 2.21 (CI: 2.1-2.45, P=0.04), hospitalization for more than 15 days had an Rpa of 1.23 (CI: 1.1-1.87, P=0.04), and presence of more than two postintubation complications had an Rpa of 2.14 (CI: 1.82-2.3, P=0.03). CONCLUSION: There are factors associated with post-endotracheal intubation stress and complications in COVID-19 patients in Piura 2021
