To determine whether fetal macrosomia is a risk factor for uterine atony in puerperal women of Trujillo Belen Hospital. Material and methods: A retrospective case-control study was carried out in which 255 puerperal were included, according to selection criteria, which were divided into 2 groups: patients with uterine atony or without uterine atony; applying the odds ratio, and the chi square statistical test. Results: The frequency of fetal macrosomia in pregnant women with uterine atony was 18%. The frequency of fetal macrosomia in pregnant women without uterine atony was 6%. Fetal macrosomia as a risk factor for uterine atony with an odds ratio of 3.71 which was significant (p <0.05). In the multivariate analysis through logistic regression the significance of the risk for the factors is corroborated: fetal macrosomia, preeclampsia and pregestational obesity as risk factors for uterine atony. Conclusion: Fetal macrosomia is a risk factor for uterine atony in puerperal women of Trujillo Belen Hospital.
