Abstract: Establecer la asociación entre el uso de transporte público terrestre y
el resfrío común en Lima-Perú.
Material y método: Estudio transversal analítico. Se realizó a través del análisis
secundario de datos de un estudio primario elaborado en la Facultad de Medicina
de la Universidad Ricardo Palma en Lima, Perú. La variable dependiente fue
resfrío común, la variable independiente fue transporte público (bus,
metropolitano, corredor de buses, taxi colectivo, taxi no colectivo y otros medios),
y las covariables secundarias fueron: edad, sexo, nivel socioeconómico, tiempo y
frecuencia de exposición. Se realizaron modelos lineales generalizados para
estimar razones de prevalencias (RP), usando familia Poisson, enlace log y
modelos robustos.
Resultados: De los 591 encuestados, el 53% eran mujeres; la mediana de edad
fue de 20 años; el 90,3% pertenecía a la clase media; la mediana de resfriados
en los últimos 3 meses fue de 1; la mayoría viajó en autobús (72,4%). Hubo
diferencia en el número de resfriados según la edad de los encuestados (p =
0,019). Un mayor padecimiento de resfríos estuvo asociado con el que se
transportase mayor cantidad de días por semana (RPa: 1,04; IC95%: 1,03 a 1,05;
valor p<0,001), más minutos por día de ida (RPa: 1,0025 IC95%: 1,0023 a 1,0027;
valor p<0,001), más minutos por día de vuelta (RPa: 1,0022; IC95%: 1,0015 a
1,0030; valor p<0,001), que use más el metropolitano o metro (RPa: 1,37; IC95%:
1,29 a 1,46, valor p<0,001) o el corredor municipal de buses (RPa: 1,22; IC95%:
1,01 a 1,47; valor p=0,036).
Conclusión: El uso del transporte público terrestre está asociado al resfrío
común. Los hallazgos recalcan el papel de los espacios confinados y con poca
ventilación en la transmisión de enfermedades respiratorias y se deben tomar en
cuenta en el uso del transporte público para disminuir los contagios.
To establish the association between the use of public land transport and common cold in Lima-Peru. Methods: Analytical cross-sectional study. Results: Of the 591 respondents, 53% were female; median age was 20 years; 90.3% belonged to the middle class; median number of colds in the last 3 months was 1; most traveled by bus (72.4%). There was a difference in the number of colds according to the age of the respondents (p = 0.019). More colds were associated with more days per week (PRa: 1.04; 95%CI: 1.03 to 1.05; p-value<0.001), more minutes per day the way in (PRa: 1,0025 ; 95%CI: 1,0023 to 1,0027; p-value<0.001), more minutes per day on the way back (RPa: 1,0022; 95%CI: 1,0015 to 1,0030; p-value<0.001), using more metropolitan or subway (RPa: 1.37; 95%CI: 1.29 to 1.46, p-value<0.001) or municipal bus corridor (RPa: 1.22; 95%CI: 1.01 to 1.47; p-value=0.036). Conclusions: The use of public land transport is associated with common colds. The findings emphasize the role of confined and poorly ventilated spaces in the transmission of respiratory diseases and should be taken into account in the use of public transportation to reduce infections
