INTRODUCTION: Acute appendicitis is the most common abdominal surgical condition in hospital emergencies. Surgical operative site infection (ISO) is a common complication, i.e. between 9% and 53% of all surgically operated patients. ISOs represent a great health burden for patients and providers ofmedical care. MATERIALS AND METHODS. A census, retrospective, crosssectional and descriptive study was conducted. A total of 125 patients were studied for complicated appendicitis who developed infection of the operative site during their hospital stay until their control by external office of the surgery area in the Hospital II-2 of Apoyo Sullana. RESULTS. A total of 125 patients were studied, in which the male sex was more prevalent (41.6%). The most important comorbidity presented in these patients was diabetes (15.2%). The time of illness was mainly greater than 24 hours, with a hospitalization time of 2 to 3 days. The most frequent type of ISO was superficial (76%), with a predominant clinical presentation of fever (96.8%) y serohematoma (95.2%).
