OBJECTIVE: To determine whether generalized anxiety disorder is associated with the consumption of Cannabis sativa in university students in the city of Piura. MATERIAL AND METHODS: Observational, cross-sectional study with data collection through surveys administered via the Google Forms virtual platform to voluntary participants from the university students within the city of Piura. RESULTS: A significant relationship was established between generalized anxiety disorder (GAD) and Cannabis sativa use among university students in Piura, highlighting the importance of addressing mental health and substance use in this group. Although no significant associations were found with sociodemographic variables, the relevance of residence, especially being a pensioner, was emphasized as a significant factor in understanding generalized anxiety disorder and cannabis consumption among these students. CONCLUSION: There is a significant association between generalized anxiety disorder and drug use (Cannabis Sativa)
