The objective of this study is to determine the relationship between salivary pH and dental caries in students with special abilities between 8 and 15 years of age from CEBE Santo Toribio de Mogrovejo and CEBE Tulio Herrera León. The study was observational and cross-sectional. 70 students with special abilities from CEBE Santo Toribio de Mogrovejo and CEBE Tulio Herrera León were evaluated. The CPOD and ceod index were used to evaluate dental caries and pH meter to determine salivary pH. The Chi-square criteria independence test was used considering a significance level of 0.05. The results were that the students with an acid salivary pH (37%) presented mostly a regular caries index, finding a statistically significant difference (p=0.000). According to gender, men presented the highest percentage in acid salivary pH with a regular caries index (23%) while women who presented an acid salivary pH obtained a regular caries index (14%), finding a statistically significant difference (p=0.007). According to age, students from 8 to 13 years old presented the highest percentage in acid salivary pH with a regular caries index (13%), finding a statistically significant difference (p=0.004). According to the type of special ability, no statistically significant difference was found (p=4.531) since all the groups had an acid pH and the majority had a regular dental caries index. It was concluded that there is a significant relationship (p=0.000) between the increase in salivary pH and the presence of dental caries in students with special abilities between 8 and 15 years of age from CEBE Santo Toribio de Mogrovejo and CEBE Tulio Herrera León.
