Objective: To identify the association between characteristics of risk behavior and HIV-Syphilis confection in a public hospital in Piura, 2015-2017. Material and method: Retrospective case-control study in patients with HIV-syphilis coinfection based on data collection form supported by hospital records during 2015-2017, in which sociodemographic variables were explored (age, sex, origin, level of education, marital status, occupation) and risk behavior (sexual orientation, number of sexual partners, use of condoms, history of Sexually Transmitted Disease) were defined as patients with HIV-Syphilis co-infection. patients with HIV mono-infection, odds ratios and 95% confidence intervals were estimated, reporting p values less than 0.05 as statistically significant. Results: Of 140 patients selected for the analysis, in the case group it was found that the average number of sexual partners was 4.8, the majority was homosexual (50.8%), had between 4 to 6 sexual partners (42.2%). In the simple regression analysis, there was an association between homosexual sexual orientation (OR: 2.73, 95% CI: 1.33-5.62, p = 0.006), number of sexual partners (OR: 1.78, 95% CI: 1.37-2.32, p < 0.001), having 4 to 6 sexual partners (OR: 8.08, 95% CI: 2.73-23.92, p <0.001) having 7 to 9 sexual partners (OR: 18.13, 95% CI: 4.38-75.05, p <0.001), and no use a condom (OR: 2.50, 95% CI: 1.21-5.15, p = 0.013). In the multiple regression analysis, only the significance between the number of sexual partners was maintained (OR: 3.50, 95% CI: 0.69-17.85, p = 7 0.017), having 4 to 6 sexual partners (OR: 9.50, 95% CI: 1.20- 36.90, p = 0.041), and not using condoms (OR: 1.18, 95% CI: 0.02-1.71, p = 0.021). Conclusions: The number of sexual partners, having 4-6 sexual partners and not using condoms were the characteristics of risk behavior associated with HIV-syphilis coinfection.
