transversal.

Objective: To determine the factors associated with self-medication in patients attending General Medicine outpatient clinics in Piura Hospitals. Materials and Methods: A qualitative-quantitative, observational, cross sectional study. The sample consisted of patients attending the general medicine outpatient clinic during the study period, screened according to selection criteria. Bivariate analysis was conducted, testing the hypothesis through Chi-square correlation or Fisher's exact test, considering the test assumptions, with values of p < 0.05 considered significant. Results: The detailed analysis of self-medication in hospital patients in Piura reveals significant demographic and socioeconomic influences. Young adults, males, singles, and those with lower incomes show higher rates of self medication. Variability between hospital locations suggests the need for contextualized approaches. Social factors, such as the influence of friends and advertising, also play a key role. Recommendations include tailored educational campaigns, standardization of hospital practices, and promotion of regular medical consultations. Conclusion: There are factors associated with self-medication in patients attending General Medicine outpatient clinics in Piura Hospitals
