This thesis focuses on analyzing the structure of school No. 2141 of the city of Lima with and without the use of viscous dampers in order to use this system of seismic protection having as sample Hall A model 780. These school premises are They consist of several pavilions, between three or four regularly surrounding a central courtyard. Each of these pavilions has two or three levels and, in each level, generally 3 classrooms are grouped. The schools that were built before 1997 suffered severe damage to their structure due to the earthquake in the city of Nazca in 1996, which modifies the regulations making it more rigorous. Due to the fact that the earthquake was more intense in Nazca, the school premises in that area were the most affected. In the present thesis, emphasis will be given to the type 780 module pavilions, specifically to the typology built for the coastal zone. These educational infrastructures show that they failed by short column and short partition walls. In addition, there was no adequate separation between partitions and columns, the walls were not confined; which, evidently, allows us to conclude that these constructions definitely do not comply with current regulations. For this reason, in the present research work the placement of viscous dissipaters is proposed to reduce the lateral displacements, the shear forces, the bending moments, the drifts of the structure and thereby meet the requirements of the current Peruvian regulations.
