This report aimed to analyze the relationship between perceived parental competence and emotional intelligence in secondary school students from a private educational institution in Tumbes. Substantive research with a correlational design, whose sample population consisted of 55 students from third to fifth year, between men and women in an age range of 14 to 16 years, enrolled in the 2019 academic year, to collect the data. the scale of perceived parental competence, version for children (ECPP-H) by Bayot and Hernández (2008) and the BarOn Ice emotional inventory: abbreviated NA by Reuven Bar-On (2000). The results show a highly significant correlation (p<.01) between perceived parental competence and emotional intelligence. Furthermore, a significant correlation (p<.01) is evident between the parental involvement dimension with the Intrapersonal emotional intelligence dimension; Also, there is a significant correlation (p<.05), direct with Adaptability and Stress Management. Coming to the conclusion that the way in which students perceive the practical skills of their parents to protect them, care for them, educate them and ensure healthy development is associated positively with emotional, personal and interpersonal skills
