The use of mathematical models to characterize a basin and / or represent the hydrological cycle (the transformation from precipitation to runoff), in the prediction of maximum floods are receiving considerable consideration in the projects of control of surface water resources at a global level, therefore that in the present investigation was developed with the hydrological model of the Geomorphological Instantaneous Unit Hydrogram, which allows us to determine the peak flows and the time in which this is reached (peak time) in the sub basins of Cerro Blanco and Chorobal, the model was elaborated and proposed by Ignacio Rodríguez Iturbe and Juan Valdés in 1979, which has as main variables the Bifurcation and Longitude relationships (Horton 1945) and the Area relationship (Schumm 1956). These were determined from the geomorphological characteristics such as the order of the stream, according to Strahler's method, length and drainage area of the drainage network, through Geographic Information Systems (GIS) software, obtaining a different unit hydrograph in each sub-basin under study. The transformation process from precipitation to runoff is also due to variables such as: Precipitation in the basin, abstraction, effective precipitation and its temporal discretization, resulting in a meteorological model. Then, the convolution was carried out between the precipitation and the unit hydrograph, obtaining a direct runoff hydrograph in the Cerro Blanco and Chorobal sub-basins, being superimposed on each other and on the transit of the resulting hydrograph to the section of the channel where the modeled flows and flows resulting from the analysis of maximum historical flows for different return periods, the results being finally subjected to sensitivity tests, calibration and finally the validation of the model according to the Pearson linear correlation coefficient, this being equal to 0.832 being valid for a confidence level of 95%. By considering the validity of the model, it is possible to apply the model to non-gauged basins within the study area in the determination of extreme events and its use as a consideration in mitigation and / or protection and engineering projects
