Objective: To identify the risk factors associated with macrosomic newborns in the pregnant women treated in the Hospital II-2 “Santa Rosa“ during the period July - December 2018. Methodology: An analytical study of cases and controls was carried out. Results: We compared 197 macrosomes with the same number of newborns who presented an adequate weight at birth. Factors such as mother with> 2 gestations (p <0.001), gestational age between ≥40 - 42 weeks (p <0.001), mother with BMI at the beginning of pregnancy in the obesity range (p <0.001), mother with a history of macrosomic fetus (p <0.001), and the male sex of the newborn (p <0.001) were found to be associated factors. Conclusion: The risk factors associated with fetal macrosomia are: mother with >2 gestations, gestational age between ≥40 - 42 weeks, BMI at the beginning of gestation in the range of obesity, the history of a macrosomic product and the male sex of the RN. Maternal age is not a risk factor associated with macrosomia. The prevalence of macrosomic newborns was 12.3%. Cesarean delivery was the most common way to terminate the delivery in macrosomic newborns.
